Takeout-Burger King Part 2 of 2

Shellsyd Burger

Shellsyd is a resto-bar located beside the Shell Gas Station along Diversion Road. The place is "native/tribal" inspired and the ambiance is very laid back.

Vince: I hate this burger. Its too expensive, and looks like a sandwich which an elephant just stepped on. It doesn't taste good either, you cant taste the patty and the bread is loaded with sugar that after eating one bite you instantly get diabetic. You don't get what you pay for. I'll never eat this burger, ever... And I really mean it. Eat at your own demise. And also bring some Insulin, you may need it...

Angie: I heard a lot about this burger but, unfortunately, it failed to meet my expectations. It didn't even look very appetizing because it was so fat. More like a pie or a sandwich rather than a burger. The bread was also sweeter compared to usual burger buns, plus it drowns the the meaty flavor. It may be mondo-huge, there's definitely not enough bang for your buck here.

Marcos: We tried this burger after testimonials from friends that it was infamously big. The size indeed made us excited after seeing it for the first time. The taste on the other hand was totally disappointing. The bread was sweet and the patty was uber loaded in fats, I felt lightheaded after only a few bites.

The Verdict
Cost Factor: 2
Deliciousness: 1.75
Patty Brutality: 1
Burger Madness: 2.75

Afrique's Burger

Afrique's is a well known restaurant in Iloilo with branches at Jaro Market, Gen. Hughes Avenue, and Hotel del Rio. Since they primarily serve Italian foods, we became quite curious after knowing that they also serve burgers.

Vince: Ah, this reminds of the Isuzu Crosswind. Lots of people get suckered into buying one because the company is famous for its reliability. What a bunch of dupes. They don't get what they pay for. Like this burger, its too expensive. It may look good but wait till the greasy patty disintegrates in your mouth and you'll taste what I mean. If Afrique's wants to redeem themselves, I suggest that they scrap this away from their menu.

Angie: Of all the patties we've tasted, this one is quite unique. It crumbles right after you chew it. Its not worth your money. You can probably make a better burger at home, just add buns, coleslaw and homemade-patties and you're done. Too bad it doesn't live up to the delectable dishes that Afrique's offers.

Marcos: It looks like it has everything in it but it actually doesn't taste that good. It is also relatively more expensive than the other burgers we've tasted in its class, which explains the low ratings. I agree with Vince, hey could be better of taking it out of their menu.

The Verdict
Cost Factor: 3
Deliciousness: 2.75
Patty Brutality: 2.75
Burger Madness: 3.25

Floyd's Burger

Floyd's is located on the second floor of The Atrium Mall in Bonifacio Drive.

Vince: This burger is a sheep in wolf's clothing. They advertise that its grilled but its really not. Its too greasy and it will raise your blood pressure in an instant. Even though its el chepo, you still dont get what you pay for. And even though the place looks decent, its litered with as#h#le waiters. It really pissed me off that the waiters are so disrespectful to the customer who just orders one burger! That f#cker can't wait for us to go away. Imagine that... The nerve. He thinks He's a big fish, but hes just a f#cking parasite. And yes, this affected my judgment of the burger. Ill be back there with decent clothes and slap my moolah in their arse. F#ckers. You're service s#cks dawg, I suggest you pick out your waiters well.

Angie: I too don't like how the waiters treated us but even if they treated us quite well, this wouldn't change my opinion about their burger. The burgers may be el-cheapo, but their also ordinary, and greasy.

Marcos: It's really cheap and if I wanted to down an extra hundred calories and grams of fat, then I'd buy this burger.

The Verdict
Cost Factor: 3.25
Deliciousness: 1.25
Patty Brutality: .75
Burger Madness: 1

Crave Burger

Crave is a restaurant located in Smallville, Iloilo's nightlife center. The main restaurant is located in what used to be the old flow and they have a smaller space, kind of like a burger stand, beside Blue Jay Coffee.

Marcos: Definitely the best tasting patty among all the burgers we've tried. It's just so soft and juicy that it will make your taste buds thank you for giving them such a treat. Even though it's relatively expensive, it's so worth it. The only negative comment I have is the long time waiting for your order to get served.

Angie: The best tasting and thickest patty in the bunch. It somewhat expensive but once you've tasted the patty it wouldn't matter, it's just oozing with flavor and meaty-goodness. Its the next best thing for me, but only on the account that I prefer my burgers with more ingredients just to give it a unique flavor.

Vince: Now this is the Holy Grail of burgers here in Iloilo! Coupled with a patty that can make the local McDonald's quarter pounder look like a regular burger, it decimates the competition. Its f#cking awesome. Pure patty goodness without the greasy taste. Even though its really expensive, its really a good buy. Its like the new Ford Ranger... A no apologies truck that muscles its way though the rough stuff. It may not be as big as the other trucks but as some people might say, it not about the size, its how you use it. And with this burger, you cant go wrong... Its not about the size of the burger, its about the thickness and taste of the patty.

The Verdict
Cost Factor: 5
Deliciousness: 4.75
Patty Brutality: 4.5
Burger Madness: 4

Mang Inasal Burger

Mang Inasal is a rapidly growing fast food chain. It has spread across the islands of the country - from Visayas to Mindanao. Their prime product, is of course, their inasal (grilled chicken) but for curiosity sake, we thought of giving their "Pinoy burger" a try.

Vince: This is a no pretensions burger. It doesn't say that its grilled, yup no lies here. Its actually named the Pinoy Burger. So as expected, its going to be greasy, small and bloody cheap. Its the el cheapo of all the el cheapo's. You get what you pay for with this burger. Its doesn't taste good, but with Php 25, you can't really expect more.

Angie: It may be greasy but maybe this is what it give it a Pinoy kick, which makes it unique. Its taste may not be extraordinary, but it does give justice to its price. I'll definetly choose it over the burgers in the same price range.

Marcos: It's cheap but it doesn't taste very good. If I'm broke then that's the time I'd probably give Mang Inasal's burger another try.

The Verdict
Cost Factor: 5
Deliciousness: 2.75
Patty Brutality: 1.75
Burger Madness: 1.75
Visual Impact: 1.75

Hey, Guys! You're getting brutal with your rivalries here!! From the venerated Perri Todd's to the disgusting "others" (opted not to mention names). Except for Crave's, part 2 seem to be disappointing by the sound of it! It's interesting to note that the late Clara Peller's 1980's commercial of Wendy's burger here in north America "Where's the beef?" applies to most of the burgers in Part 2! Looking forward for the next journey.
